With Thanksgiving falling late in November, December is already blurry. I know it just started, but there are only 12 days until winter break. Yes that’s it, less than three weeks until winter break.
As an administrator, we see the holidays a bit differently. Although the days are literally shorter; they are also more intense. Parents are requesting more meetings, scholars are acting out, patience is wearing thin, deadlines are quickly approaching and the days are quickly slipping away.
My heart races because we only have 12 days. Where did the year go? I barely remember what happened last week and now I have 12 days to finish 2019. Wait, it just hit me, and now I have 12 days to finish 2019. It’s not over! I still have 12 days. How can I make these 12 days count? Recently, I read a blog by Stories from School AZ blogger Elizabeth Schley, Spreading Kindness. Take a minute to check it out.
In our role as educators, we face adversity and challenges every day and in every direction. How often do you let things out of your circle of control consume your thoughts, drive your actions and ruin your mood? I’ll admit it, I get pulled in and allow things outside my circle to dominate my thoughts and actions. Maybe you are just pushing through the next 12 days. Maybe you have already thrown in the towel. Maybe you’re already planning for 2020. I invite you to pause and rethink the next 12 days.
Okay are you ready? I am challenging you. Are you in? Make the next 12 days count. Finish 2019 strong. Tell the people who are important to you or who have helped you, how you feel. Make their day. Find something you admire about your scholars, their parents, and your co workers – tell them!

I love this Jen! I think that my perspective is different because I only get my scholars for a semester, so it’s bittersweet. We try to make each day count and it ends up working out better for everyone as it cuts tension and requires me to focus.
